JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines announced the termination of their merger agreement due to regulatory obstacles.

This came after they were on the losing side of a federal antitrust lawsuit.

The CEOs of both airlines cited these hurdles in ending the deal, with a federal judge blocking JetBlue's attempted takeover of Sprit earlier, asserting potential harm to cost-conscious travelers.

Despite their appeal,  analysts anticipated slim chances of success, prompting JetBlue's decision to end of merger.

The Justice Department welcomed the news, hailing it as a victory for consumer protection.

Spirit, facing financial challenges, Plans to refinance its debt and capitalize on improved demand to tread the path back to profitability.

JetBlue's failed merger attempt with Spirit follows a similar setback with american Airlines last year.

That was also hindered by antitrust concerns as a judge labeled the potential deal as anticompetitive.

JetBlue is now left to fend for itself with the aim of putting an end to losses, cutting back on costs and improving its overall operations.
