The US Economy's Lead over Europe: Factors Driving the Disparity

유럽을 앞서는 미국 경제, 격차를 일으키는 요인

While global economies grapple with pandemic-induced setbacks, the US stands out with robust economic growth, a thriving job market, and declining inflation. Posting a 3.3% GDP gain in Q4 2023, exceeding expectations, the US has outpaced other advanced economies. Expectations to maintain this led in 2024 are rife due to a number of reasons.

The US poured trillions into its economy through multiple stimulus packages, bolstering consumer spending and sustaining businesses. This historic influx of federal funds, primarily directed towards individuals and small business, underpinned consumer spending. A flexible job market and productivity surge have also propelled the US forward

Energy self-sufficiency shielded the US from the energy price shock caused by geopolitical tensions. Unlike Europe, heavily reliant on Russian energy imports, the US experienced a milder inflationary impact. Lower energy price hikes contributed to a more moderate inflation rate compared to Europe, positioning it as global economic frontrunner.
